How long do these products last?

On first look they may seem expensive compared to your normal everyday supermarket brands, but they do last so much longer.  It does depend on a few different factors however, how much longer they last,  such as hair length and thickness, body size, if they are applied to the whole body and how much you use each time. The shampoo bars last about 40 washes, again maybe a little more or less depending on your hair length/thickness.  Some people may use body lotion/butter bars (to be stocked in the near future) more often on just legs and the back of arms for example, in which case the bars are likely to last around 6 weeks (40g bar).

To help extend the life of your products, it is important to let the products dry out between uses as this can help them to last up to twice as long as if they are allowed to sit in moisture.  Think about ice cream.  If you take it out of the freezer, it will melt.  With these solid bars, if you leave them in a position where they can’t dry out, they will effectively melt/evaporate.

Some interesting info (some technical bits):

Traditional Shampoo & conditioner bars (not Pixi Eco products)

Traditionally, shampoo bars have been made using a ‘saponified’ process (this is a method of making soap products).  Because of this, they have an alkaline PH and require an acid rinse with every use to rebalance the PH - not using it will likely cause the hair to look greasy and with mineral/soap build up.  Typically they would also have needed a transition phase too.  The reason for this is that conventional shampoos and hair products often contain silicones that coat your hair to make them feel soft and look shiny.  Unfortunately, these substances leave some residues that are hard to remove with natural gentle products.

Another reason is that conventional shampoos tend to remove your natural oils causing your scalp to over-produce oils to compensate. This transition phase can typically take 2 weeks and this is the main reason that people haven’t switched to natural shampoo bars in the past, as their patience runs out going through the transition phase. and quite understandably so.  These products have also been known to strip colour from coloured hair.

Pixi Eco Wellbeing Shampoo & Conditioner Bars

We have sourced products that are made with PH balanced surfactants or to put it simply, aren’t soap shampoo bars, so they don't have a transition phase nor do they require an acid rinse, therefore using our products will be a lot easier.  They are even suitable for coloured hair.  Yippee!

Lather

Natural products won’t lather as much as the products you are used to, so please don't be disappointed.  Who needs lather anyway?  We don’t really, it’s just we have become conditioned to think that more lather means the product is working and is cleaning better.  Unfortunately, it takes chemicals to give a lot of lather, which thankfully, these natural bars just don’t have.

oh and by the way, the products aren't just for ladies, men can use them too.

2 in 1 shampoo & conditioner bars - 70g

Average use per bar 40 washes –19p per wash *

These 2in1 bars give you the best of both worlds, and will gently wash your hair, thanks to the use of SCI and CAPB, two coconut-based surfactants, while the organic unrefined oils will help condition them.  All the 2in1 solid shampoos contain Hydrolysed Quinoa Protein, an amazing ingredient that not only increases combability and softness, but also helps improve colour retention.

How to use: Rub the bar directly on your hair or you can lather it in your hands and use the lather to wash your hair. we suggest washing your roots first, and rinsing. Then to make sure to get the most out of the conditioning ingredients of the 2in1 shampoos, apply some lather on your hair lengths and ends, and leave it for 1-2 minutes, like you would with a traditional conditioner. Leave longer if you need extra conditioning, and then rinse.

If you don’t feel its conditioned enough, try using the conditioner bar (coming soon) just on the ends, but pay heed to the ‘less is more’ saying

2in1 bars come in 4 varieties:

Oily/Fine hair - the organic broccoli oil lightly conditions the hair while the rice protein gives some extra volume.

Dry/Curly hair - the organic shea and cocoa butter will deeply condition your hair and define your curls

Normal Hair - the organic argan and jojoba oil will leave your hair soft and shiny without weighing them down

Itchy/Dry scalp - the combined action of the nettle powder and the rosemary + tea tree essential oils will help relieve itchy scalps

Solid Soap Bars (on a rope of as a bar)

Price £5-£6 – 100g

Just use as you normally would soap.  Can be used as body and shaving soap.  The rope makes it easy to hang in the shower to dry out between uses.

Dog Shampoo

Price £5-£6  - 100g

It will be dependent on the size of your dog how long it lasts.

The ‘neem’ oil in the dog shampoo has soothing and anti-flea properties. Neem oil is a naturally occurring pesticide found in seeds from the neem tree. It has been used for hundreds of years to control pests and diseases.  The small amount of essential oils further reduces itchiness without interfering with your dog’s nose.

How to use:  as per traditional shampoo bars, you may find you need an acid rinse with this.  This has multiple benefits, it will balance the PH, help remove any residue and it will leave the fur soft and shiny!

Acid Rinse Recipe:

  1. 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar/white vinegar/citric acid
  2. mix your acid ingredient with the water in a spray bottle
  3. after washing your hair, spray the solution on your roots and lengths
  4. let it rest on the fur for 1-2 minutes and then rinse well
